Fuller, Plumper Lips with Dermal Fillers: All Your Questions Answered

All your friends have gotten them, but all you have is questions. You’re in the right place. In this blog, our experts answer the top dermal filler FAQs so you can head into your appointment confidently.

Ready to get off the fence and see if fillers are right for you? Then, this blog is the best one to read right now. Ben Shatil, DO, Allison Santhouse, PA-C, and our team of experts at YS Aesthetics specializes in dermal fillers — and answering questions about them.

Here’s what we have to say about the most asked-about filler topics.

What kind of fillers does YS Aesthetics offer?

There are many options for fillers, but we only use the very best. At YS Aesthetics, we offer Teoxane RHA® and Restylane® fillers, which contain synthetic hyaluronic acid. Your body naturally produces hyaluronic acid to help bind skin moisture, but it gradually slows down production with age.

Our fillers replenish your stores of hyaluronic acid, creating healthier, fuller, younger-looking features.

What can I expect from dermal fillers?

The procedure can vary slightly depending on the exact location we’re treating, your medical history, and other factors. However, you can expect your appointment to go something like this.

When you arrive, you recline comfortably in our chair. We clean and prepare the injection site with a topical anesthetic to ensure your complete comfort and relaxation. Then, we inject the filler (usually in several strategic areas to get the best results).

You may feel a mild stinging or burning sensation; otherwise, you won’t feel any significant pain. We gently massage your lips to ensure the filler is distributed correctly, and your results look as natural as possible.

Most filler treatments take between 15-30 minutes and only require one visit to our office.

Do I have to do anything after I get fillers?

There’s no downtime after your filler appointment. Some of our patients head home to relax, but many others don’t skip a beat and get right back to their routine.

There are a few rules of thumb to follow to make sure you don’t disrupt the filler distribution and exacerbate side effects. For instance, we recommend you:

  • Wait at least a day before doing strenuous activity
  • Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and other indoor tanning
  • Avoid touching and rubbing the treated area for at least three days unless we’ve told you otherwise

If you have any concerns about how your daily life might impact your results, talk to us, and we can help you develop an action plan.

Are there any side effects?

Our patients love dermal fillers because they’re low-risk, but that doesn’t mean you won’t experience some temporary side effects. Most of our patients experience mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site(s) for a few days.

Resist the urge to rub your sore face as much as possible and manage your symptoms with rest and over-the-counter pain medication.

Do results develop right away?

Because fillers fill your skin, you can expect results to develop almost immediately. Fillers like Restylane work behind the scenes to fortify your collagen stores and promote healthy skin from the inside out; however, those results develop gradually.

How long can I expect results to last?

Fillers don’t last forever, but they do last longer than most realize. Our lineup of fillers boasts some of the longest-lasting results at 12-18 months.

Will my results look natural?

The best way to ensure natural results is to get your fillers from a professional. No one but a licensed medical professional should ever inject you with anything. Fortunately, you have access to a team of filler experts at YS Aesthetics.

Dr. Ben is commonly referred to as the Lip King, and he even teaches a masterclass on his filler technique.

When you see us for fillers, you can rest assured that you’ll leave our office looking naturally beautiful — not awkwardly sculpted and over-plumped.

How many treatments can I get?

If you’re not careful, you can overdo fillers. That’s why we create an injection schedule to help you maintain results without going overboard. Typically, you can get a touch-up appointment when results have started to fade, but the timing varies depending on your unique needs.

Are fillers safe?

Fillers are one of the safest cosmetic injectables available. They’ve helped people of all ages and skin types restore their natural beauty for years.
